Asus Gaming Laptop Computer
Although Alienware gaming laptops are unstoppable, Asus tries to steal some of the M17x clients with the new G71V. Asus provides a somewhat strong reason for why the G series is such full of potential: the gaming department from Asus is part of the Republic of gamers that is committed to deliver best performing PC solutions for laptop gamers. From the first look at the Asus G71V, features like the Intel Quad Core processor QX9300, 4 GB SDRAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT external 512 MB, up to 1 TB HDD and the Blu-ray DVD combo give Alienware M17x a run for its money. However keep in mind that the features above are for the high-end configuration of the G71V.
Funny enough the Asus has named it's laptop with the backwards number from the Alienware M17x. Like the M17x the Asus G71V offers special lightning for total gaming experience. The G Series comes alive with speakers and logo LED lights. You can choose from two excellent display in your G71V configuration (17.1" WXGA+ Color Shine and 17" WUXGA Color Shine). The screen response time is quick. The vibrant, crystal bright screen really make your game come alive.
The Asus G71V offers an excellent resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (the same as the M17x). You really don't have to worry about storage capacity if you'll choose the Dual HDD. Either it's 500 GB (250 GB x 2, 5400 rpm), 640 GB (320 GB x 2, 5400 rpm; 7200 rpm) or 1 TB (500 GB x 2, 5400 rpm) you still can play as many games as you like, or watch Blu-ray DVD's without keeping track of the storage capacity. The main memory runs with the latest technology, DDR 3 SDRAM; with two SODIMM sockets for expansion up to 4 GB SDRAM (loses the battle against the 8 GB from the M17x). You can choose from a variety of CPU's, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9600 / T9400 / P8600 /P8400 (2.53 GHz - 2.0 GHz, 1066 MHz, 6/3 MB On-Die L2 Cache).
Although these are good processor you have to go for the Intel Quad Core Processor QX9300 for the ultimate gaming experience. And now a luxury feature: a second display for instant messaging (very original). The latest 9700 GT gives the G Series unprecedented graphics power promising a smooth, stutter free visual experience (NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT External 512 MB GDDR 3 VRAM). As the M17x the G71V offers a 2.0 Mega Pixel web camera. The connectivity is assured by the built in Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR and the Intel WiMAX / WiFi 5100. It's interesting how Asus succeeded in adding so many LED status indicators (power on / suspend, battery charging / full / low, storage device access, capital / scroll / number lock, wireless on status indicator, Bluetooth on status indicator), while the interface is full: 1 x microphone in jack, 2 x headphone out jack, 1 x VGA port, 4 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x IEEE 1394 port, 1 x PJ45 LAN jack for LAN insert, 1 x HDMI, 1 x E-SATA, 1 x TV antenna input. It boosts an 8 cells battery with 5200 mAh (4 to 5 hours).
The dimensions are very good (for a gaming laptop): 41.05 cm wide, 29.95 cm deep and 4.5 to 5.55 cm tall with a weight of 3.9 kg. The pre-installed operating system, Windows Vista Ultimate (or if you like Home Premium) can't be changed to XP. Other software installed on the Asus G71V: ASUSDVD 6 in 1, preinstall Power2Go v5, Norton Internet Security 2008, Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0 and NERO 8 Essentials. If you are interested in a good gaming laptop, other than the Alienware M17x, the Asus G71V is for you. Keep in mind that accessories like backpack, headset, TV remote controller, receiver and antenna are optional and will charge your final bill.
